Didim is a developing resort on the Aegean coastline between Bodrum and Kusadasi. With over 4000 British buyers having chosen to live here, and a large percentage of them being animal lovers, we have, together with the Turkish animal lovers, started up the Didim Friends of Animals charity to help the street dogs, and eventually cats and any other animal that is getting a raw deal. Still in its very early days, we aim to follow the example set by other charities in resorts such as Fethiye, and have commenced a neuter and release programme on the large street dog population. Our aim is to have this situation 90% under control within 2 years, and we will then concentrate on the cat problem and what we can do to resolve that. We will assist the local council in their education programme to help local people to be unafraid of the street dogs, and to teach them how to behave around them. In the meantime, for the street dogs that we have, we will endeavor to make their lives better, more comfortable and with food and water provided both summer and winter.
